It might be an old cliche but a lot does happen in a year. On the first of January last year (exactly one year ago): HHH were still the undisputed champions of the league; Joehan and fap were the hottest attacking combination around; GT was in its twilight period still under the leadership of Paddy; we were still reveling over Suarez#09's fateful miss for EU against TD which relegated AM-99's team to the 2nd Division; and well, arctic was actually playing haxball. So here is a review of all that happened last year in Galaxy.

Season 4

Going into the Season, it was predicted that the title race would be tightly run between HHH and hR, and in a way this is what happened. With last Sesaons MVP Breeezy leaving the team, arctic took captaincy of the team and signed players to replace - if not improve on the departed Breeezy and Moe in Maddude, TehBeast and Knuckles. hR, their main challengers to the title improved their squad by signing jonny, initially as GK backup. Of course, we know what went on from there - arctic's laptop broke, leaving him unable to play and HHH crumbled as a result, losing 5-1 to hR in the process. There were even whispers of HHH being disbanded, but at the last moment the dutchman Jenzo came in to take over the team. At the same time, dark horses Night Eyes were battling with hR at the top of the table, with players such as rising star being instrumental for them. As the Season went on however, NE ran out of stream, seemingly leaving jonny propelled hR (with fap retiring from the team) with a clear run at the title. But it was not to be that simple, with Jenzo recruiting many great players to his HHH team, including the vital Rooney1878. dooms filled in for eventual top-scorer Joehan in a very tight 2-2 draw between the 2 sides, which would prove to be much more important than was first apparent. While this was going on, Ren's Defenders were thriving, with them being able to snap up Maddude after he left HHH and his combination with naho allowed TD to have a great end to the Season, pipping Night Eyes to 3rd place. Indeed, they were the only team to defeat hR in the league, with a comprehensive 4-1 victory putting hR in the precarious position of having the fate of the title out of their hands. This would have been a tough blow, with HHH already knocking hR out of the cup in the quarter-finals 4-0. They would go on to win the cup, in a final win against IH (who had been taken over by Casper, recruiting excellent Belgies in Fella and co.) but as is well documented, a 5-4 loss against Fatality on a Saturday evening meant that the title would be unattainable and would instead go to hR. In the 2nd Division, Eagles United bounced back - winning Division 2, being promoted alongside signorelli's Nordic Lions, Barlex's Inglorious Scorpions (rebranded after previous captain Giroud got banned for being a cunt really) and Song1's Five Minutes Left (another team that got relegated in Season 3). Some say that Season 3 was the peak of Galaxy, but I think that maybe this epic Season could just beat it.

Season 5

With the league expanding to its largest amount of teams, (20 spread across the 2 Divisions) you could say that the only way was backwards, as no Season could really replicate the last one in terms of excitement and drama. Once again, it seemed like it would be the giants (no not 'The Giants' led by Shaps - who remembers that team l0l) of hR and HHH that would lock horns again in the pursuit of the title, and for the status of being the first team to win 2 titles in Galaxy. Jenzo took a massive blow pre-Season, with his star man Rooney1878 being banned for use of macro fucking faggot. With HHH having the better of the form on hR at the end of Season 4, some could sense a shift in power between the two sides. Despite a lack of Joehan though, hR asserted their power over their rivals with a 2-0 victory in the first (and only) community shield match between the two sides. There was to be challenge from other sides though, with the stacked NL boasting players such as aguero10, rolexx and duce, TD having signed fap to replace Maddude and NE having signed the returning Breeezy and his partner in crime arctic, as well as new talent EWKS. IH also had a strong team, similar to the one they assembled at the end of the previous Season for boasting players such as the German KingKong. However as it often is, it did not go to plan for many of those teams. Nordic Lions looked to be a threat but quickly went inactive, with Mick being passed captaincy of the team, who eventually ended up at the foot of the table with many defwins given against them. Similarly after fap stopped playing for The Defenders, they went on a steady decline - finishing 7th. Night Eyes looked promising also, getting many goals into the GOTW early on, but after Gazza gave up captaincy and the majority of his team fucked off, it was left to Apple to bring the team to the end of the Season, finishing one from the bottom. Probably the biggest disappointment was HHH, with the team being quite inactive, and certainly not performing as well as they did in the Season before, ending up in mid-table mediocrity. However, as was in the previous Season, their cup performances were excellent, beating hR in the quarter-finals once again en route to the final where they would face TD. With Ren outfield, somehow TD managed to get a 3-1 victory to claim the teams first (and only) ever silverware. In the league though, it was pretty straightforward for hR, with no goals being conceded at all until matchday 15 vs IS. Their main challengers in the first half of the Season were IH, until inactivity hit and they tailed off, with Casper leaving the team (to join TD), giving it eventually to its old captain fr1sky to disband where it started, but they still ended up in 3rd place after that fast start. The dark horses of the Season I guess were Five Minutes Left, who were carried at times by WillYouReallyBeatME? who was top scorer and assist maker, with the team finishing in a very good 2nd place. The second Division was very competitive, with Pirates of the Sea being victorious, followed by Sheep Shaggers, Perfection A and Game Theory. However, there were some signs of inactivity leading into the summer period, with some suggestion that maybe the league had hit its peak.

Season 6

For a league started at the height of summer, it was natural for things to turn sour I guess. Hope of expanding to a total of 24 teams and even whispers of a third Division (by which I mean bert said it in a thread, but hes top qt so we tuk it srs) were extinguished and we remained stable at 10 per division. Such was the strength of the second Division the Season before, there was lots of new challengers to take on the old guard of the league as it were. The old firm of hR and HHH had been weakened, with hR losing the instrumental jonnyynnoj (despite re signing him a few weeks into the Season) and HHH having captain Jenzo going on holiday for 4 weeks near the start of the Season. As it was the Season before, some teams didn't live up to their full potential. Most notably of which being Game Theory who had players such as Devil, Enza and Rautovic joining the better players from their Season 4/5 squad but once again fell inactive, as was predicted by some before the Season start. Once again, The Defenders had a good squad but they just couldn't be consistent over the course of the Season as naho and Breeezy (joined late in the Season by the returning Radu/SEBA) couldn't quite drag the team to the top half of the table. Other teams were hit with inactivity also, with Game Theory, The Legacy and Five Minutes Left (who were renamed after luck got banned also for being a dickhead) occupying the bottom 3 places at the end of the Season. So it was to be a tale of the promoted teams. Pirates of the Sea were comparatively disappointing after their Division 2 win the Season before with a mediocre 7th place finish what they show at the end of the Season. Perfection A were a big shock, being predicted low down the table by many but the team driven on by Witsel in the heart of midfield managed to come 4th after being in the top 3 for the rest of the Season. Eagles United were another big surprise, with Becky and Gazza being their main attacking combination in a 3rd place finish after sitting at the top of the table for the first few weeks in the Season. They were knocked off the top by the excellent Sheep Shaggers, who went on to be the first promoted team to win the league, in emphatic fashion too - being unbeaten (following in the footsteps of hR and HHH with a 13-5-0 WDL record) and winning the league by a big margin in the end. The UK core of the team was vital, with Jai-fap-Maddude ripping teams apart. It was to be the last Season for Haxball Revolution, with myself deciding to disband the team at the end of the Season. They did not go out with a whimper however, after being predicted to finish low down in the table, but with a little help from my friends jonny returning to the team after Psykout and opc not being able to replace him we ended up finishing 2nd, only losing out to eventual Champions Sheep Shaggers, and even being unbeaten after the signing of jonny. In our last ever match indeed, we reached the final of the cup, facing the comprehensive Champions of Division 2 Overdose in a tight game. With dooms missing an open net in the first half though it was not be a fairytale ending with Overdose coming out 1-0 winners, doing a unique double after winning 17 out of 18 games in the second Division. Despite all this, the Season was not to be remembered for the good haxball shown, but rather for the inactivity that plagued the league. Naturally in the summer period the use of Wildcards were very prominent and the Season had to be extended a few weeks at the end to make sure that the amount of defwins would be reduced. Even then, many games went unplayed and this sparked the admins to totally revamp the structure of the league for the next Season...

Season 7

So the league halved in size overnight, and a total redraft of all players was put in place. This added to a minimum UK player quota caused some controversy in the league, but in my opinion anyway sparked some must-needed interest in the league. We currently have not finished the Season but there has already been some major talking points. From the jonny/quack saga to my own difficulties with a trade from TeamSwift to The Defenders, there has been a fair share of happenings this Season. Overdose were predicted to win the league by almost everyone, but after Te][o gave up captaincy the team never really looked the same and now currently sit in 4th place. The big shocks of the Season lie in TeamSwift, who are in 3rd place as it stands after being predicted a bottom half finish by the majority. Gash Hounds were predicted to be one of the weakest teams before the draft but themselves and Perfection A find themselves in a 2 horse race with 6 games remaining for both teams to try and edge out the other to become champions. Both teams are fueled by the very best the UK has to offer, with Jai/Mad/Witsel coming up against jonny and fap (with a certain Ferry on the side) and the game between the 2 teams will be one of the most exiting certainly in recent Galaxy history. I guess you could say that this was the aim of the Season, to encourage more UK players to play in the league and we have succeeded in some ways.

Interestingly, at the end of Season 3 there was 1 Division with 10 teams - exactly the same as we have today in the middle of Season 7.

Didn't proof read most of this fucking yolo.

Here's to another year of Galaxy then, bring on 2014.
